PERSIL - c.1930
PERSIL - c.1930
“Automatic Laundry Detergent”
Rare original domed and embossed enamel advertising sign. 45 x 33 cm.
This is the French version—
In very good condition—
with a superb sheen and exceptionally vibrant colors, notably a deep black.
There is slight fading of the reds, most noticeable on the laundry detergent package.
The condition is remarkable, with only very subtle, localized enamel wear along the lower edge.
Launched in 1907 in Germany by Fritz Henkel, Persil is a laundry detergent whose name derives from PERborate and SILicate.
At that time, doing laundry was still a laborious task; Persil offered a modern formula that bleached with oxygen—“whitens without scrubbing…automatic laundry detergent.”
