PETER LAIRD LETTER TO LAWRENCE KLEIN REGARDING TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES #2.
8.5x11" typed letter dated Dec. 21, 1984 is addressed to Lawrence Klein from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles co-creator Peter Laird. Letter has been printed on back of photocopy showing fantasy scene w/dragon and barbarian. Letter mentions Kevin Eastman letter from lot #6 and mentions complimentary copies of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #2 Laird was sending (see lots #9-10). Letter notes that the comics were first printings and that a second printing of issue #2 was scheduled for Jan. 1985. Letter also acknowledges the difficulty Klein had in obtaining a copy of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #1, the letter reading in part, "I Was Bowled Over When I Read Your Letter And Saw That You Had Actually Paid $25 For A First Printing of TMNT #1. Now That's A True Turtle Fan! We Knew That The First Issue Of Our Book Had Doubled, Tripled, And In Some Cases Quadrupled In Value -- But $25!!!???!!! That's Outrageous! I Mean, I Love It, But It Is Outrageous. So, Because You And Your Father Like Our Book So Much That You Would Part With That Much Of Your Hard-Earned Money, I Am Sending You These Hot-Off-The-Presses Copies Of #2. I Am Also Sending Along A Complimentary Autographed Copy Of #1" which is the CGC 9.8 copy offered in this auction (see lot #3). Letter has faint creasing at lower left, but is o/w VF/Exc. Great content from one of TMNT's creators regarding the early days of the franchise's climb to popularity. Lawrence Klein Collection.
