PEWABIC POTTERY EARTHENWARE BOTTLE VASE WITH IRIDESCENT BLISTERED OR "LAVA" GLAZE, C.1906-1918 H 11" DIA 6.5"
Pewabic white clay body. Copper iridescent glaze over blue glaze with reduction, oxidation, and blistering. Having impressed Pewabic Detroit" mark on underside as well as the black letter "Pewabic Detroit" label used from 1908-1920. Underside also has, in white paint, the brush applied number "66". Provenance: Property of a prominent metro Detroit collector of Pewabic Pottery.
Condition: Hairline crack around the lower portion of the neck (see additional photos). The white applied "66" is likely a result of a suggestion that Charles Lang Freer made to Mary Chase Perry in the Alfred Street Studio. He suggested that special pieces be numbered and recorded.
