Dimensions with frame: 42. 5cm x 47. 5cm Valentijn became an art teacher in Kampen in 1921. He was affiliated with the Burgeravond school and the Reformed Lyceum. A religious conflict led to his dismissal from the Reformed Lyceum in 1932. Valentijn painted and drew mainly still lifes and topographical works. During the Second World War Valentijn became a member of the NSB. After the war Valentijn and his wife were interned for a while. In 1947 he exchanged Kampen for Amsterdam where he continued to work until his death in 1959. An exhibition with work by Valentijn has not taken place for a long time. His tainted past will undoubtedly have been to blame for this. It was only between October 29, 2014 and January 29, 2015 that his work was brought together for the first time: in the SNS Historic Center in Kampen.
