PHOTOGRAPHS. Album of Commander C. W. Tinson, Naval interest. Oblong folio album with very many photographs & relating cuttings & ephemera. Records the personal & naval history of Commander C. W. Tinson (CWT). It begins with his first ship HMS Endeavour in 1912, then to his marriage & honeymoon in November 1912, followed by his First World War experiences on HMS Duncan. It includes Christmas & New Year photo cards of the ship & a message from the King & Queen. In 1915 he was promoted to serve on HMS Marlborough & includes the 1915 & 1916 Christmas 'cards'. He was on board HMS Marlborough in the Battle of Jutland, with the Admiral of the Fleet, when she was torpedoed but, though holed, managed to limp back home. On Wednesday 20th November, just nine days after the end of the war, King George Vth met his Chief Naval Officers on board, under Admiral Sir Charles Madden. The album contains the original photograph commemorating the occasion, together with a list of all the senior officers of the British Navy who were presented to the King on that day as he thanked them for the Victory that had only just been declared. The remainder of the album records the latter years of Commander Tinson's life up to his early death on February 22 1927 at the age of 44 from medical complications arising from disease he contracted on war service. Concludes with pasted-in obituaries of Commander Tinson & Captain J. B. Hawkins.
