Pierre Villain (French, 1880-1950). Oil on Canvas, Untitled. Giant painting of seven kids playing beneath a tree. Signed P. Villain lower right. Canvas size is 50-1/2" x 62-3/4", framed to 56-1/2" x 68". Strongly rooted in European Social Realism, Villain's work shows influence by Robert Henri and George Bellows, and bears a resemblance to work by his contemporaries, Moses and Raphael Soyer. Several of his pre-war works are in today's sale.
Condition Report: Could use a cleaning. Craquelure and some very minor losses, most notably along a branch running down right side of tree. Canvas separated from stretcher around upper left quadrant. This item will need to be shipped via a freight carrier of your choice. We maintain a list of reliable carriers, or you may choose your own.
