Pierre Villain (French, 1880-1950). Oil on Wood Panel, Untitled. Subject is a young child in a green jacket, holding a basket. Signed Pierre Villain at top right. Circa 1930s. Sight size is 16" x 13" and framed size is 20" x 17". Strongly rooted in European Social Realism, Villain's work shows influence by Robert Henri and George Bellows, and bears a resemblance to work by his contemporaries, Moses and Raphael Soyer. Several of his pre-war works are in today's sale.
