Pierre Villain (French, 1880-1950). Oil on Canvas, Untitled. Subject is a classic nude reclining. Top 1/3 of canvas remains unpainted. Signed verso. Circa 1930s. Canvas size is 15" x 24" and framed size is 20" x 29". Strongly rooted in European Social Realism, Villain's work shows influence by Robert Henri and George Bellows, and bears a resemblance to work by his contemporaries, Moses and Raphael Soyer. Several of his pre-war works are in today's sale.
