Pierre Villain (French, 1880-1950). Oil on Panel, Untitled. Subject is a mother and child in an outdoor market. Signed Pierre Villain at lower right. Circa 1930s. Sight size is 13" x 16" and framed size is 20 1/2" x 17 1/2". Strongly rooted in European Social Realism, Villain's work shows influence by Robert Henri and George Bellows, and bears a resemblance to work by his contemporaries, Moses and Raphael Soyer. Several of his pre-war works are in today's sale.
