A TROMPE L'OEIL STILL LIFE WITH A SWAG OF GRAPES, PEARS, PEACHES, APPLES, PLUMS, AND BUTTERFLIES DECORATING A NICHE WITH A GLASS ROEMER
signed and dated lower center: P. v. Bosch . f 1654
oil on canvas, unframed
40½ by 32⅝ in.; 102.9 by 82.9 cm.
Condition Report:
The following condition report has been provided by Simon Parkes of Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc. 502 East 74th St. New York, NY 212-734-3920, simonparkes@msn.com, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's.
Much of this work is in very good condition. There is a recent break in the canvas in the alcove in the center, running about 6 inches vertically, which has not been very well restored. The lining is slightly uneven. If the lining were changed, and the work cleaned and retouched more accurately, the picture would be seen to be in very good condition.
"This lot is offered for sale subject to Sotheby's Conditions of Business, which are available on request and printed in Sotheby's sale catalogues. The independent reports contained in this document are provided for prospective bidders' information only and without warranty by Sotheby's or the Seller."
Provenance:
Dr. Law Adam, Far End, France Hill Drive, Camberley;
