LINCOLN, Robert Todd (1843-1926), eldest son of Abraham and Mary Todd Lincoln, lawyer, military officer, businessman, and politician. Autograph letter signed ("Robert T. Lincoln"), to James Gospill (1823-1884). Chicago, IL, 7 February 1881. 2 pages, 4 5/8 x 7 1/8 in., creased at folds, with partial separations, with original envelope addressed in Lincoln's hand. Lincoln writes to James Gopsill, former Mayor of Jersey City, declining his invitation to an event held by the Lincoln Club.

[With:] BEECHER, Henry Ward (1813-1887), clergyman, author, abolitionist, reformer. Autograph letter signed ("Henry Ward Beecher"), to James Gospill (1823-1884). Beecher writes to Gopsill, declining his invitation to an event held by the Lincoln Club.

Washington, DC, 7 February 1881. 1 page, 5 x 8 in., on "Senate Chamber, Washington" letterhead, creased at folds, with partial separations, with original envelope.
