POLYCHROME SCRIMSHAW WHALE'S TOOTH WITH EAGLE AND SHIP PORTRAIT Mid-19th Century

Probably Civil War era. Obverse depicts a spread-wing eagle, a banner, two stars, a shield, American flags, crossed canons and a laurel wreath containing an anchor, all under a decorative arch. Scalloped border at base. Reverse depicts a ship flying assorted flags and pennants, including a commodore's pennant from the central mast and an American flag off the stern. Six figures in hats are visible on deck. Sawtooth and pique border at base. Length 4".

Condition: Small faint age lines at base.
