In the case of car models, like the Porsche 911, which are produced over a period of decades, it is inevitable that some of the versions will be more successful than others. The Carrera 3.2 undoubtedly belongs to the first category; in fact, it can be said to represent a true jewel in the whole family crown. There are essentially
for two reasons for this. First, from a technical point of view, its engine had reached a high level of efficiency and was totally reliable, allowing it to turn in impressive performances, yet it had none of the construction-related complications that were to dog the later versions. The second reason is esthetic: after some initial perplexity over its large US-style bumpers, the 'G' series of the 911 became regarded as an example of elegance, and it was much missed once the 964, with its deform able shields, took its place. There can be no doubt that the removable roof on the Targa versions also offered added value. The 911 Targa offered for sale, a preserved car, came to Italy, from Germany, in 1988. Since then, it has had five owners, the present one since 2005.
