Everyone knows that the Porsche 911 has always been an eye catcher, but the Turbo is even more striking! And yet, remarkably, at one time Porsche itself seemed to lack confidence in this model, believing that it was outdated and ready for retirement, and that the new 928 would soon take its place. Instead, the 911, albeit modified, is still part of the company’s range, embodying the brand’s history. The first Turbo, unveiled in 1975, had a 3-liter, mechanical injection engine producing 260 HP; externally, it stood out for its enlarged body work and wide rear spoiler. From 1978, it was updated with a high performance 3300 electronic injection engine delivering 300 HP, which allowed it to touch speeds of around 260 km/h. The one offered for sale is a USA spec car delivered in Europe, because its first owner, an American, wanted the 300 HP version. It was imported into the USA in 2016, and registered in Utah, after being restored in Italy. Its wheels and double exhaust are not original and the instrument cluster is in miles. A suggestion: handle with care, and if it’s raining, best leave it at home!
