19TH CENTURY COPY OF AN 18TH CENTURY PORTRAIT, BEATRICE CENCI AFTER GUIDO RENI. The original resides at the Louvre in Paris, France. Oil/Canvas is 26" x 20.25", Encased in a pierce carved and gilded frame with inset glass jewels, some are missing, 45" x 39.25" x 5". 22-year-old Beatrice was beheaded as the punishment for killing her father. Provenance: The consignor states “The painting of Beatrice Cenci was acquired along with the Maison-Deniere Poseidon Clock (Lot 1263), from Enrique, one of the members of the noble Spanish Alba family from Seville Spain. A mutual friend, Florence Knoll of Knoll Associates, was my contact with Enrique. These items were family possessions that he had”.
Condition Report: Painting has scattered inpaint, screening varnish, frame has older repairs but is in solid condition. Sold as is.
