American School after John Singer Sargent unsigned oil on canvas, 45 x 36 inches, framed. N.B. This was commissioned by Augustus Peabody Loring who had a student of the Boston Museum School copy it because he wanted an example at both of his estates. The original portrait however was lost in a fire at Pine Hill, Beverly Ma. The canvas bares a stamp of the Boston Museum School. The artist who the school had selected remains anonymous. She was the daughter of George Augustus Gardner and Eliza Endicott Peabody Gardner and sister of John Lowell Gardner (lot 15)
