POST WAR WEARERS COPY Pour le Mérite BY GODET

Prussia, German State. A Post War Pour-le-Mérite, by Godet, c. 1930 (Pour Le Mérite.) Instituted June 7, 1740 by King Frederick II. A very fine post war Pour Le Mérite, marked Godet, in 14k, a blue enamelled Maltese Cross with hand carved eagles in each quadrant, suspended from an elongated loop, measures 51.61mm (w) x 51.43mm (h), weighing 30.71 grams (excluding ribbon), wear typical of period, overall very fine condition. Accompanied by a correct ribbon measuring 765mm (l) x 55mm (w), extremely fine condition. Footnote: The Pour le Mérite was established by King Frederick II of Prussia in 1740 and it was conferred as both a military and civil honour. The Order was named in French, as during the time, French was the leading international language and the fashionable language at Frederick’s court.
