Philadelphia School, circa 1810-20, lovely detailed portrait of a young lawyer and his wife, he in standard black double-breasted coat with tall white stock and cravat, holding a law book; she in a magnificent Empire style white cotton summer dress with lace trim, wrapped in a light shawl having polychrome ribboned edge, with a beribboned white Belgian lace bonnet, both with landscape backgrounds, she has a drape and column to the left; housed in later matching gold molded cove oval frames, OS: 34 1/2" x 29 1/2", SS: 29 1/2" x 24 1/2". Cleaned and relined, fine craquelure, a few tiny flakes.
