Taino. Reverent cacique (chief) or shaman/priest with 2 bodies. The initial body has subject’s hands on knees. The legs are accentuated by symbolic icons running from the hips to the knees. Vertebrae defined by 4 extended knobs. A second skeletal full figure surrounds the head of the primary cacique and adapts the face to complete form. Magnetite. Originally from Hispaniola. Acquired from the estate of Pre-Columbian art dealer Robert Fulling 1982.
