PROBABLY ENGLISH, MID-19TH CENTURY
AFTER THE ANTIQUE
APOLLO BELVEDERE AND DIANE CHASSERESSE

both inscribed: Lieut Coll. C. H. Nicholson / to C. A. Nicholson / AS HEIRLOOMS FOR BALRATH HOUSE / 21st FEBY 1866
bronze, mid-brown patina
Apollo: 102cm., 40 ⅛in. high
Diana: 100cm., 39 ⅜in. high

Condition Report:
Overall the condition of both bronzes is good, with dirt and wear to the surfaces consistent with age. The bronzes have probably stood outside, and as such there is general wear to the patina, including greening, some dryness, and general losses to the patina. There are a few knocks to the base of Diana, in particular to the front at the inscription, where there are a few stable fissures. There are a few very minor knocks to the base of the Apollo. Both bronzes are cast in sections, and some joints are visible, including a very slightly open joint which is visible to the shoulder and upper arm of the Apollo, and extends down his back.
