The Pacific Railroad Surveys detailed in these volumes comprise the most extensive report on the exploration and cartography of the American continent west of the Mississippi, including geological and topographical surveys, as well as reports on indigenous cultures, wildlife, and fossils of the region. Innumerable illustrations throughout the set, including fold-out maps, landscapes, botanicals, and more.

Condition Report: The leather on the covers/ spines are in poor condition, and the marbled boards are well worn particularly at the edges, including bumped corners. Volumes 2, 3, and 7 are each missing a handful of illustrations (approximately 12 in total). Chipping to the corners of the text block in volumes 8 and 9. Some browning to the text blocks.
