Painting (1) - oil on copper - Early 18th century
Annunciation Technique: oil on copper Dimensions: cm. 27 x 22. 5 (with frame 37 x 32. 5 cm) Bolognese school Period: late 17th century / early 18th century Golden frame '800 The painting depicts the Archangel Gabriel with a lily on the right and Mary on the left. The Angel announces the birth of Jesus to the Virgin Mary, who turns towards him, surprised by this sudden apparition, and bows her head as a sign of obedience to the divine will. From above the dove of the Holy Spirit descends towards her, surrounded by a dazzling light, which barely makes one glimpse the interior of the room. Extraordinary and highly suggestive painting, in which the nuanced atmosphere helps to give a mystical tone to the scene.
