Painting - Wood - Late 13th century

A rare painted ceiling panel with representation of the Nativity, painted in tempera on a wooden panel. Mary is depicted reclining on a daybed, while Joseph is seated upon a stool. In between, is the Christ Child in his crib, which is placed upon a low table. I have had this panel in my collection for quite some time. It had been in a Brussels private collection since the late 1960s, and was said to have been purchased at the time from the Brussels antique dealer Madame Servais, known for her Haute Epoque.
