Pair Coin Silver Cups, H.E. Baldwin of Louisiana
Pair of coin silver beakers or cups, incuse marks for retailer Horace E. Baldwin & Co. of New Orleans, Louisiana (working 1842-1853). Note: The bulbous form of these hand raised cups appears early 19th century, pre-dating Baldwin's known working period, and suggesting Baldwin may have applied his own name to previously owned pieces for resale, or made them as a custom order. 3 1/2"H, 7.34 oz troy.
Private Southern Collection, acquired in 1980s from collector/dealer Ted Stickney of Alabama, who acquired them from a New Orleans family.
Condition Report: Very good condition with a few minor dents and scratches. One cup has a 1/4" permanently darkened scratch or fissure to side. No monograms or monogram removals apparent. One mark is lightly doublestruck.
