A rare pair of important Louis XVI ormolu and bronze double usage cassolettes. The cassolettes are 'double usage' in nature meaning that they have two uses. The top can be removed either to form an urn or a candlestick. Each cassolette takes the form of a circular fluted column surmounted by a double usage lid with entrelac banding flanked by serpent shaped handles. The covers and base of the oval bodies being decorated with masks and mounted on a curved square base. The covers surmounted by acorn finials. Approximate dimensions: 20 cm high x 7 cm wide x 7 cm deep Weight: 1490 grams for the pair Condition: Overall, the cassolettes are in excellent condition for their age and usage still retaining their bright and rich ormolu colour.
