[ translate ]

An exceptional pair of white marble French urns dating in the style of Louis XVI, dating to the early to mid 19th century. Each cassolette is of baluster form resting on tripod legs terminating with hoof feet, mounted on a stepped white marble base, with the circumfrance decorated with a pierced ormolu freize featuring rosettes and grapes and surmounted by a flambeau finial. To the middle of the base, there are ormolu star appliques and to the bottom of the baluster marble urns are finely chisseled acorn finials. The rim of the baluster urns and bases feature ormolu beading whilst the balusters also consist of finely engine-turned bands. Unusual for this type of cassolette, the sides are decorated with cherub heads, unlike other examples which are normally decorated with a Satyrs' mask. The cherubs are of high quality with clear and defined characteristics. Finely, each base sits safely on three scrolled bun feet with acanthus leaves. Approximate dimensions: 29 cm high x 10 cm wide Total combined weight: 3686 Grams Condition: Overall, the cassolettes are in very good condition, there is some marking to the marble (a natural occurance) . This can be seen in the close-up pictures. Please study the pictures, or indeed, ask any questions that you may have.
