DESCRIPTION: Pair of Satsuma earthenware vases, possibly by Kinkozan, each decorated with floral, foliage, and butterfly motifs and featuring gilt and enameled accents. Possibly spurious kanji on underside: "Dai Nihon Kyoto Kinkozan tsukuru" ("Great Japan Kyoto Kinkozan make")
CIRCA: The bodies 20th century, one vase's neck and rim probably later than the bodies, both feet possibly later than the bodies.
ORIGIN: Japanese
DIMENSIONS: H: 17" Diameter: 11.25"
CONDITION: Each vase has received major, professional restoration to foot. One vase has received major, professional restoration from the neck up. The other vase has received professional restoration to two cracks or breaks on its neck, at least one of which extends into the shoulder; the body of this vase has also received professional restoration to several lengthy cracks or breaks; the neck of this vase also has a few minor punctures at interior.
