Pair of Ancient Colombian Pottery Female Figures

**First Time At Auction**

Pre-Columbian, Colombia, Magdalena River region, ca. 600 to 1500 CE. An interesting pair of hand-made terracotta female figures, one standing and one seated, and both with abstruse features. The seated figure has a flat base, curved sinuous arms, and a thick neck. The head features sharp 90-degree angles, is comparatively large to the rest of the body, and has a protruding nose and a square-shaped top adornment. The second figure stands atop lengthy arched feet and has a bulbous body as well as a wide neck. The head has an overall rectangular profile, with slit-shaped eyes, a rounded nose, small circular ears, and a flat-topped forehead. Both figures are made of red-orange terracotta material, now covered with earthen and mineral deposits. Quixotic yet attractive! Size of largest (standing): 4.5" H (11.4 cm).

Condition Report: Seated figure repaired from three large pieces, and standing figure has reattached head. Both figures have age-commensurate surface wear, light adhesive residue along crack lines, small chips and losses to feet, bodies, and heads, with earthen and mineral deposits throughout. Both figures have an old inventory sticker on their respective bases with "2343-21/2" in blue ink.
