A pair of original Art Deco cigarette cases made of quality celluloid simulating Iv-ory in appearance, with tortoiseshell-effect borders.

The cases were manufactured in Japan by the company NICHI CO as part of a special official order for a merchant/importer active in the Land of Israel named Albert T. J. Missri.

The cases have been preserved in perfect "time capsule" condition within their original cardboard packaging, which proudly bears the explicit historical inscription: PALESTINE / MADE IN JAPAN.

The first case: features a classic sailing ship gliding across the water, with masts and sails spread wide.

The second case: features a songbird perched on a branch surrounded by leaves in a traditional, delicate East Asian design.

Japanese artisans of that period specialized in combining maritime and terrestrial nature motifs on celluloid items and miniature works produced for export.

Both cases open on an internal hinge and retain the original factory rubber band intended to hold cigarettes firmly in place.

British Mandate period in the Land of Israel (circa the 1930s / 1940s).

In completely new, never-used condition (New Old Stock / Deadstock).

The celluloid is lustrous, entirely intact, and free of cracks or fractures. The inner and outer cardboard boxes are completely intact, including the original tissue paper protecting the surfaces of the cases.
9×7.5 cm.
