Leadbetter, Danville (1811-1866). Chief Engineer of Alabama and Confederate general. ALS, "D. Leadbetter / Maj Engineers," 1p, 7.75 x 9.875 in. "Fort Morgan." June 20, 1861. Addressed to George Goldthwaite (1809-1879) during his brief service as Adjutant General of the Alabama Army. Letter concerns fees related to repairs made on Fort Morgan. Leadbetter had been sent to Mobile in the spring of 1861 to oversee the construction of Confederate defenses.
Crews, Charles C. (1829-1887). Among the final generals commissioned by the Confederacy; wounded in the hip at the Battle of Dover (1863). Partially printed DS, "C.C. Crews," as colonel, 1p, 23.25 x 9 in., "Barnwell District, S.C." February 4, 1865. Tri-monthly return of his brigade, part of the division led by General William W. Allen. Report concerns the number of men and horses present in each unit under Crews's command. Columns at right margin have been added to accommodate the number of imprisoned officers and enlisted men.
Condition Report: Tri-monthly return with staining and several large holes along bottom edge.
