Pair of Chinoiserie Black Lacquer Console Tables. Continental, probably French. Shaped rectangular top with projecting rounded corners over conforming apron on turned and downswept legs joined by C scroll shaped X stretchers. The black lacquer surfaces gilt painted with foliate arabesques and Chinoiserie landscapes. Circa 1860. {Approximate dimensions: 33" high x 52" wide x 21" deep.}. Provenance: Property from an Important California Collection. Condition: Some surface wear throughout, primarily to table tops and top edges. Some scuffs, scratches, a few chips primarily to edges and one to left side of one table, and loss to gilt. Previous insect damage is apparent.
