Pair of Federal Hepplewhite Mahogany Armchairs
Pair of Federal Hepplewhite Mahogany Armchairs
ca. 1800, New York, each with a shield back with a leaf-carved splat, joined to shaped arms, dished seat and outswept legs.
h. 39-1/2"
Dimensions: 45 x 45 x 40 in
Condition Report: Both chairs are in very good polished and restored condition. All legs and backs are tight and secure. One arm exhibits a slight amount of movement at its joint with the stile. Chair A: there is a spot of filler on the back of a stile, presumably where a dowel or screw is attached to secure the seat rail. The upholstery exhibits a light stain that may clean out. Chair B: There is a glued repair to the top rail, about 1 1/4" long. It appears to be the original wood, where small break was re-attached. The back side of the stiles each exhibit evidence of an added dowel to secure the seat rail..
