Pair of North European Baroque Walnut and Oak Side Chairs
First quarter 18th century
Each with caned back surmounted by an acanthus-carved pierced serpentine toprail, the black horsehair-upholstered seat raised on squared cabriole legs, joined by a shaped stretcher and ending in braganza feet. Height 45 1/2 inches (115.6 cm), width 20 inches (50.8 cm), depth 13 inches (33 cm).

Condition Report: Fair condition commensurate with age and use, old marks and scratches, scuffs to legs and feet, one with repaired break to one cresting, toprail with repaired breaks at juncture of stiles, perishing to later varnish, especially to front legs, later corner blocks; other chair with repair to back left leg and now with tenon showing through, caning later.
