Pair of Peruvian Chancay Textile Fragments

**First Time At Auction**

Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Chancay culture, ca. 1300 to 1450 CE. A lovely duo of textile fragments, comprised of tightly-woven natural fibers in hues of espresso, caramel, coffee, and cream. The smaller panel displays a series of spiralized designs around one border, with two anthropomorphic faces wearing elaborate, arching headbands in-between three columns of abstract geometric forms. The larger panel displays a myriad of wonderful imagery, including linear, stepped, curvilinear, spotted, and triangular motifs. A quartet of simplistic faces adorns the obverse side, each sitting atop a semicircular shape with large, arching headdresses, all against a light-brown ground. Regular and inverted stacks of triangles containing interior patterning complement the spaces between each disembodied head. Two fabulous textiles from ancient Northern Peru! Size of largest: 31" L (78.7 cm).

Condition Report: Both textiles are fragments of larger items. Expected age-commensurate surface wear, fraying to some areas of interior as well as peripheries, staining and some discoloration, fading to original pigmentation, otherwise very good.
