Pair of Signed Japanese Edo Iron Kogai

**First Time At Auction**

East Asia, Japan, Edo Period, ca. late 18th to mid-19th century CE. A pair of iron kogai, long picks that were used for chopsticks (hashi) as well as for hair ornaments. Each kogai features a slender, pointed body, several protruding nodules along the upper handle, and a petite loop protruding from the top. An engraved signature on the frontal midsection of each kogai reads "Myochin." Size of each (both are relatively similar): 11" L x 0.5" W (27.9 cm x 1.3 cm)

Provenance: private J.H. collection, Beaverton, Oregon, USA, acquired in November 2012; ex-private Onomichi, Hiroshima, Japan collection
