Pair of Vases ''Octopus'' Loetz Wwe., Klostermuehle, ca. 1888 Light blue opal glass, white-grey, brown-violet and colourless overlay. The brown overlay layer in steel model is pierced by irregularly composed 'polyp-like' ornament. Gold-painted vine and spiral decoration. Gold-plated lip rim. Rubbed. Back in gold inscribed: Patent. Gold rubbed. H. 29.5 cm. The Octopus glasses were among the top achievements of the glassworks and were presented as a special specialty at all important exhibitions at the end of the eighties, for example at the German National Arts and Crafts Exhibition in Munich in 1888 and at the World Exhibition in Paris in 1889.
