[ translate ]

**First Time At Auction**

Pre-Columbian, Gulf Coast Mexico, Veracruz, ca. 550 to 950 CE. Two mold-made terracotta standing figures. First is a mother holding her child in one arm, the other outstretched, with a large beaded necklace and a broad headdress, all in a light-orange hue. Second is a buffware figure with wide-spread arms and legs, a blocky triangular head with a short crest on top, and twin tendril-form projections extending from the sides of its head. The vessels are filled with small terracotta balls, thereby making each a rattle, and both have whistle mouthpieces and tone holes which produce lovely sounds when blown into. Size of largest (buffware): 5" H (12.7 cm).

Provenance: private Boulder, Colorado, USA collection; ex-private Hambrick collection, Chicago, Illinois, USA

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.

A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids.

We ship worldwide to most countries and handle all shipping in-house for your convenience.

#130033
Condition Report: Both figures have age-commensurate surface wear, small chips to peripheries, fading to details, with earthen and mineral deposits throughout, otherwise intact and very good.
