Pair of cauldron handles; Rome, I-II centuries. Bronze.
Pair of cauldron handles; Rome, 1st-2nd century.
Bronze.
Measurements: 8 x 7 cm.
Lot made up of two appliqués or two cauldron handles, which have the same size and the same morphology. They stand out for the presence of a relief, barely visible due to the passage of time, but which nevertheless denotes the features of a feline animal. It is probably a lion with its jaws open. This type of piece was very common in the Roman Empire, but also in other cultures that, directly or indirectly, had contact with them. The lion is a common animal in the arts of the period, and may have some religious significance (linked to a divinity or sacrifice, votive function, etc.) or simply be a decorative motif.
