Pair of hanging scroll paintings - Silk, Wood - Hine Taizan (1813-1869) - Very fine scroll set sumi-e landscapes with light colors - With original tomobako - Japan - 1862 (Bunkyû 2) Hine Taizan was well-known nanga painter in the late Edo period. He was born in Bunka 10th year, in Hine village near Osaka. He firstly studied the Tosa school and later he learned from Nukina Kaioku in Kyoto and was instructed in calligraphy and painting, and was excelled landscape painting. Hine Taizan was one of the most successful and prolific literati painters in Kyoto during the late Edo period. There are different accounts and anecdotes that portray him as an artist of enormous talent and personal complexity. He died in 1869, when he was 56 years old. His works could be found in many museums worldwide, such as British museum, Metropoliten Museum of Art, British museum, . . . Including original signed and sealed tomobako. Roller end: bone. Measurements: Scroll: 192 x 73,5 cm Picture: 127 x 57,5 cm Very good condition, there are signs of wear due to age and normal use, stains, marks; please, see pictures for actual condition.
