Pair of ivory vases with Shibayama inlay - Elephant ivory, Wood - Signed Masayuki 正之 in reserve - Japan - Meiji period (1868-1912) Very important note for bidders outside the EU: This item CANNOT be sold outside the EU. A fine and rare pair of vases on a finely carved wooden base. The vases feature a rich shibayama decoration of the highest quality depicting flowers, plants and insects. Signed Masayuki on the side cartouche on both vases The vases are in very good general condition, no defects or flaws can be noticed, minimal natural veining can be seen which is compatible with the period and the material. Japanese object from the Meiji period. The item was made prior to 1947, and is therefore in compliance with European Union regulations regarding the sale of ivory.
