Pair of low square back armchairs, 18th century

A pair of low square back armchairs. Shanxi Province, China. 18th century. Northern elm wood (yu mu) covered in a rich brown lacquer. Pierced ruyi decoration at top of splat above panel of cared flowers and geometric scrolls. Caned seat above apron with round corners. Double side stretchers on rounded square legs. Each is approx: 39" x 22 1/4" x 18". Shipping: This lot does not qualify for in house shipping. Please contact us for a list of our preferred shipper.
Condition: Marks, scratches, and abrasions throughout. Caned seats have areas of fraying and breakage. Areas of wear to lacquer.
Provenance: Purchased from Altfield Enterprises LTD., Hong Kong, in November 2001.
