Pair of sculptures - female souls in purgatory - Limestone - Early 16th century

A fine pair of sculptures depicting female souls in purgatory, their hands folded in prayer, while being purified by the flames. Carved limestone, partially gilded and polychrome painted. France. Early 16th century. Provenance: acquired from "Haute Epoque" dealer-expert Antoine Boccador, Paris (FR) Condition : in good condition, one figure with an old clean repair on the left side (broken and glued back in place) and only visible on the back and underside -> see pictures.
