Also used in a smaller format to promote an issue of Harper’s magazine in 1896 (see PAI-XXXIII, 387), Hyland’s stoic redhead appears in this two-sheet design holding a flower, announcing a festival in the town of Pallanza. Hyland was born in London where he studied at the Polytechnic School of Art; in 1898, he emigrated to Canada. Most of his life remains a mystery, as does his connection to the town of Pallanza.

Condition: B/ Slight tears and stains at folds and edges. Linen-backed on stretcher.
