Description
This is an exquisite finger painting of lotus by Pan Tianshou. The red lotus petals are outlined with purple-red finger strokes, with bright yellow for the seedpod and stamens, forming striking colour contrast. The lotus leaves and lake rocks are rendered with bold finger ink washes, featuring powerful, angular strokes and rich variation of dry and wet ink. Slender grass blades intersperse the composition. Ample blank space creates strong contrast between solid and void. The raw, rugged texture unique to finger painting embodies Pan’s powerful artistic temperament. Symbolising purity and nobility of the lotus, it is a representative finger-painted flower-and-bird work by Pan Tianshou.
