Paper knife - Shibayama - Ivory - Japan - Meiji period (1868-1912)

An ivory paper knife or page turner. Made using the Shibayama technique. The blade of the paper knife is decorated with lacquer trees finished with gold. There are various insects inlaid with (gem) stones. Butterfly (flaw) , ladybird, red insect and spider (flaw) . The handle is carved very finely. Two lupine figures carry a pumpkin, the tails of these figures end on the back of the page turner. Back also with lacquer branches and bird with gold. The inlay here is mostly flawed. This object is made of ivory and comes with a certificate. The certificate has been issued by Mr. A. Keddeman. Appraiser has physically seen the object and has applied the material and dates.
