Paracas Polychrome Vessel w/ Stepped Motif, TL Tested

Pre-Columbian, South Coast Peru, Paracas culture, ca. 300 to 100 BCE. A hand-built pottery vessel of utilitarian form with a planar base, a tapered lower body, and a hemispherical top half bearing a pair of squat spouts. The highly burnished vessel is adorned with yellow pigment with an incised band of inversely corresponding stepped motifs shown in cream and red pigment. Both spouts as well as the lower body bear solid black colors that contrast nicely with the colorful upper portion. Size: 5.38" Diameter x 4.7" H (13.7 cm x 11.9 cm)

This piece has been tested using thermoluminescence (TL) analysis and has been found to be ancient and of the period stated. A full printed and bound report is available for $50 to the buyer. Please contact us to request.

Condition Report: Professionally repaired and restored from multiple pieces, with resurfacing and overpainting along new material and break lines. Abrasions and light fading to surface pigment, with small nicks to spouts. Nice preservation to most original pigment. TL drill hole beneath base.
