Paracas Textile Polychrome Sash w/ Eye Mask Motif

Pre-Columbian, South Coast Peru, Paracas, ca. 500 to 300 BCE. A lovely textile sash comprised of tightly-woven natural fibers in hues of jet, cream, and coffee. The exterior design displays six abstract eye masks in alternating black and white colors, with two sections of three masks each, with eleven abstract lobed motifs separating the masks, also in alternating colors. Used to accentuate an ancient ensemble, this is a fabulous example from ancient Peru! Mounted on fabric backing. Size (textile): 68.25" L x 2" W (173.4 cm x 5.1 cm); size (backing): 85.25" L x 16.25" W (216.5 cm x 41.3 cm).

Provenance: private, Hawaii, USA collection; ex-private H. J. Westermann collection, Germany, acquired 1960 to 1970
