Beach Cocoon is very comfortable thanks to the air inside adapting to one’s body shape, so it feels like “floating”. “I wanted to make visible the invisible … Air is '“invisible” and I wanted to make it “visible”. I wanted to design an air bubble, an air cocoon, which one could be inside, in the warmth of a sort of womb, floating in silence, isolated from the chaos of the world around, shielded from the noise around, feeling save, protected by a natural, invisible air shield …Unfortunately, Beach Cocoon cannot float into the universe … but in my imagination during the design process, Beach Cocoon was floating in the universe, far away from the world, on a travel through time and space … It was a long and difficult process to realize this design, because it is hard to “control” air. It is hard to catch it and give it the form you want it to become; especially, it is hard to connect the air compartments with each other. That is why the ropes inside. (visible thanks to transparency) were necessary to pull the inner shell down, otherwise the air would go and be free to deform it”.
