Catalogue Note:
Introduced in 1961, the Patek Philippe reference 3445 marked an important milestone in the manufacture's history as its first serially produced automatic wristwatch with a date indication. Remaining in production until 1981, the reference combined the classical elegance of the Calatrava with the practicality of an everyday calendar. At its heart was the calibre 27-460 M, the date-equipped evolution of the celebrated calibre 27-460, itself descended from the legendary calibre 12-600 AT.

Manufactured in 1964, the present example belongs to the early production of the reference and is particularly appealing for its elegant white gold case and discreet diamond-set dial. Measuring 35 mm in diameter, the case features a stepped bezel and sharply faceted lugs, while the silvered dial is adorned with applied white gold baton indexes and slender hands. Particularly charming are the baguette-cut diamond indexes at 6, 9 and 12 o'clock, introducing a subtle touch of brilliance to an otherwise restrained composition. The subsidiary seconds at 6 o'clock and framed date aperture at 3 complete a design that remains beautifully balanced.

Produced over two decades in several precious metals, the reference 3445 became one of Patek Philippe's most enduring automatic Calatravas. With its early case design, elegant white gold construction and unusual diamond-set dial, the present example beautifully combines the technical sophistication of Patek Philippe's automatic movements with the understated elegance of its 1960s creations.
