Patek Philippe Nautilus wristwatch, unisex, provenance documents, stainless steel, d=37 mm / Unisex Patek Philippe Nautilus wristwatch, reference 3800/1a-001, automatic movement. Black dial with Roman numerals and date at hour 3. Original stainless steel band and deployant type closure.
The „jumbo” case of reference 3700, with its 42 mm diameter was initially part of the Nautilus concept as designed by Gerard Genta in 1976. Later it was found that some of the collectors at that time were not inclined to buy a watch with so large a diameter.
While the 3700 model was still in production, it was preceded by Patek Philippe Nautilus reference 3800, an aesthetically extremely similar edition done in a smaller case.
From a technical standpoint, the result of the decision to create their own automatic movement created "in-house" by Patek was a success. 335sc gauge was seen as an evolution over the previous movement based on the model made by Jaeger-LeCoultre. The item presented in this auction reveals a rare dial for the Nautilus model. The dial design was created in 1996 to celebrate the 20 years since the introduction of the Nautilus model by Patek Philippe. Its appearance is black, mat, without the usual horizontal lines and the hour indices are Roman numerals made of white gold.
The case, reduced in size compared to the original manufactured in 1976 and the special dial make this item become a "must have" among watch collectors.
The watch is accompanied by the Patek Philippe archive excerpt.
